Hey girls, many of us are working from home right now but what is the best way to do this? Check out our 8 tips to work efficiently from home;

  • A nice workspace

A good workplace ensures peace, clarity and structure. Whether it is your own desk or your kitchen table or a spot in your living room, this is your “office” for now. No matter how big or small, as long as it is defined as such. This particular place has at least a good chair and enough light and must ensure as less distraction as possible. Make sure you can continue working undisturbed. Also, important make sure your workplace is tidy, because mess creates stress.

 

  • Make a schedule

Plans with a large P. That’s the keyword when it comes to working from home. Especially if you don’t work for a boss and you don’t always have someone around you who tells you what to do, it is crucial to have a “stick behind the door”. A person works most effectively when she has a goal to work towards.  Schedule your task so you work at your most effective and make both a weekly planner and a monthly planner to keep a larger overview. For example, divide the day into different parts, in which you want to complete certain tasks. If you give yourself 2 hours for two specific tasks, make sure that you are able to complete these within this time frame.

  • Make a to-do-list

Start your day or week with a to-do list, write down the tasks that must be completed within this time frame and be strict with yourself. Crossing off once the job is done feels great and it gives a peaceful mind.

 

  • Ensure a clear boundary between work and private life

Keep home activities such as housekeeping, walking the dog, playing with your kids, eating, watching TV or reading a book separate from your work activities. You will experience that as soon as you are working, you do not think about a full laundry basket, the news on TV etc. It is difficult but it can be done.  Best is to imagine that you are really at work and that you are not able to do other things. If you notice that you are running out of time with household activities, then just plan them in your daily schedule and check your agenda regularly. 

 

  • Tell people you are working from home

By telling others that you are not just ‘sitting’ at home but that you are actually working, you can prevent people from just calling or contacting you in any way. Just indicate that you are available at a certain time or during your break.  This way you also keep reminding yourself that you don’t have a day off.

 

  • Put social media on hold

You can check all day whether you have new messages on social media or in your mailbox and give them immediate attention. Or you can check the messages at fixed times of the day. For example, start by reading and replying to outstanding messages first thing in the morning and then do the same thing again after lunch and at the end of the day. This way you avoid being distracted or being “seduced” by your friends who are not working.

  •  Don’t forget to take a break

Don’t forget to schedule breaks. Breaks are necessary to clear your head. You also keep it nice for yourself if you plan something fun (short-term) in between. Go outside and get a breath of fresh air or do a short workout in between.

 

  • Reward yourself

Another important thing is to reward yourself regularly. For example, reward yourself with a pedicure, a mini spa or a coffee with your favorite book – every time you finish a project or have reached a goal. Make a list of rewards for yourself (things that make you happy) and use them when you achieve your goals.

And when you have finished your work.  Don’t forget to grab that glass of wine that you have been looking forward to all day and of course to call your Grandparents 😊
